Patna, Sep 5 (SocialNews.XYZ) Amid rising water levels in the Ganga and the worsening flood situation in Begusarai, Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary visited the district on Saturday to assess the situation and review ongoing relief and rescue operations.
Choudhary arrived in Begusarai at around 3:30 pm, accompanied by Union Minister and Begusarai MP Giriraj Singh.
Along with senior officials and public representatives, he visited Kailashpur Mor in Ulav to take stock of the flood-affected areas.
During the inspection, the Chief Minister sought information from officials about the prevailing flood situation, the areas affected and the relief and rescue measures being undertaken.
He directed the concerned departments to ensure that immediate assistance reaches affected residents and that all necessary administrative arrangements remain in place.
Following the field inspection, Choudhary visited the IOCL Guest House and held a review meeting with officials.
The meeting was expected to assess the availability of relief supplies, transportation, healthcare facilities, cattle fodder and other essential services in flood-affected areas.
After assessing the situation, Choudhary said around 20 lakh cusecs of water were currently flowing through the Ganga, while approximately 5.5 lakh cusecs have been released into the Sone River from the border.
“Certainly, this is a matter of concern. However, the administration is fully alert at every location, and efforts are underway to provide all necessary facilities to the people,” the Chief Minister said.
He said steps had also been initiated towards finding a permanent solution to Bihar’s recurring flood problem.
According to Choudhary, the government had earlier focused primarily on the Kosi and Gandak rivers, but officials had now been directed to ensure that Ganga embankments were fully repaired and strengthened.
The Chief Minister said ring embankments would be constructed wherever required, and new spurs would also be built to control the flow and spread of the river.
He pointed out that in several areas, Ganga water was spreading up to 20 kilometres inland.
The government, he said, would work to contain this spread and manage the flow of water more effectively.
Choudhary added that these measures would not only help reduce the impact of floods but could also address the problem of silt accumulation in the river.
After his visit to Begusarai, the Chief Minister conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas of Bhagalpur and Naugachia.
He reviewed the prevailing situation and took stock of relief and rescue operations being carried out in the affected regions.
Choudhary directed officials to ensure that flood-affected residents faced no difficulties and that all necessary arrangements were made without delay.
He stressed that there should be no lapse in relief and rescue operations and instructed the administration to respond promptly to protect the safety and well-being of the people.
